I don't post here alot....mainly because I don't have the time I'd like to have to play with robotics...but here is somewhere I can definately stick my nose in. I used to race RC electric cars on a regular basis, and I can tell you from personal experience that Tower sucks. Not only are they slow and full of crap, their prices aren't that good. Check that, if you are buying mail order, their prices are BAD. Pick up a copy of RCM or Radio Control Car Action from you local newstand and check out the ads in there. There are at least 5 companies that will have better prices and service if you need it. BTW, my position officially would be to support your local hobby shop, but that isn't always possible. Support them when you can, and don't buy from Tower when you can't. --Donnie Return-Path: robot-board@oberon.com Received: by media.mit.edu (5.57/DA1.0.4.amt) id AA04877; Wed, 6 Apr 94 12:26:49 -0400 Received: from ([127.0.0.1]) by oberon.com (4.1/SMI-4.1_Armado.MX) id AA06801; Wed, 6 Apr 94 12:22:54 EDT Date: Wed, 6 Apr 94 12:22:54 EDT Message-Id: <9404061619.AA07253@footfalls.com> Errors-To: gkulosa@oberon.com Reply-To: rick@artisans.footfalls.com Originator: robot-board@oberon.com Sender: gkulosa@oberon.com Precedence: bulk From: rick@artisans.footfalls.com (Rick Moll) To: Multiple recipients of list Subject: Re: servos X-Listprocessor-Version: 6.0b -- ListProcessor by Anastasios Kotsikonas R. I think the current rate for the "Super Saver Club" is $25/year. The current "Tower Talk" (issue #2, good until April 30) has the TS-51 (38 oz-in) servos in it for $10.42 (in quantities of 12). Personally, I spring for the Super Saver Membership each year, but then I buy a lot of servos. Paul Schuh writes: >Instead of going through Tower Hobbies. Try supporting your local >hobby store. But in actuality, I have *not* found their technical support to be great. Also, in this case, we're getting the support from the RobotBoard. So buy all means go with the cheapest source. Also the hobby stores around here do not come close to Tower Hobbies System 2000 servo prices. Also, no matter who you buy from, make sure you can get reasonably priced replacement parts (particularly if you're using large expensive servos). I use them once a month. There prices are good when compared to other people in the RCM and a lot better than any indepented. I have not had one problem as far as service. Some othere good sources are; Hobbie Shack - in Irvin Ca. (mail order and stores). Hobbie Lobby - in TN - (Little more expensive but good products from Europe). John Stossel BTW. I fly rc gliders, rc planes, control line planes, and build robots. Whats next?
