January 10th -- INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD
---- The men's and women's indoor track and field teams
competed this past weekend at the Dartmouth Relays in Hanover, N.H. Lauren Andriolo
finished sixth in the 55m HH with a time of 8.74 seconds. Tammie Brooks (3000m)
finished fourth, while Renee McKenzie (5000m) finished fifth. The highest finisher for
the River Hawks was the Mile Relay team of Debbie Russo, Melissa Sullivan, Nia
Boudreau and Heidi Pelletier, which finished second. The men's team also had high
finishers in the meet. The 4 x 800m Relay team of Brendan Finn, Steve Langis, Jim
Johnson and Bill Kelly finished first with a time of 7:51.32. the Distance Medeley Relay
team of Finn, Kelly Johnson and Dan Alperin finished second with a time of 10:30.11.
January 31 -- INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD
---- The women's indoor track and field team competed at
the New England Quad Meet at Norwich University, where UML (183 1/2) defeated
Williams (175 1/2), Tufts (112), Middlebury (55), Fitchburg State (32) and Norwich
20. First place finishers for UML were senior Lauren Andriolo (55m HH and triple
jump), freshman Erica Towlson (high jump), senior Heidi Pelletier (55m dash), junir
Heather Farrand (1000m), sophomore Elyce Botto (long jump), the 4 x 800m relay
team, the 4 x 400m relay team and the distance medley relay team. Second place
finishers were senior Tammie Brooks (1500m), Towlson (55m HH), senior Renee
McKEnzie (1000m) and Pelletier (200m).
The men's indoor track and field team competed at the Terrier Classic this past
weekend in Bosotn, Mass. The 4 x 400m relay team of junior Liam Govostes and
freshman Bill Kelly, Brendan Finn, and Mike Suchecki qualified for the NCAA Meet with a
time of 3:18.62, while Govostes also qualified for the NCAA Meet in the 400m with a
time of 49.06. Freshmen Kevin Andriolo (3000m), Mark Blanchard (3000m) and
Suchecki (400m) all qualified for the ECAC Meet. Freshman Joe Dunn ran a 1:10.59 in
the 500m, while fellow freshman Jim Johnson ran a time of 8:55.15 in the 3000m.
Sophomore Casey Lerner ran a time of 2:00.79 and junior Mike Liddell ran a time of
9:20.12 in the 3000m, all of which were personal bests for those runners.
February 7 -- INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD
---- The women's indoor track and field team competed at
the Challenge Cup at Smith College in Northampton, Mass. UML finished second (202),
with Springfield College winning with 230.5 points. The River Hawks defeated Smith
(81.5), Mount Holyoke (38), Connecticut College (27) and Rhode Island (0). First place
finishers for UML were Erica Towlson (high jump and 55m HH), Heather Farrand
(1500m and 800m), Melissa Sullivan (400m), Heidi Pelletier (55m and 200m), Tammie
Brooks (5000m) and the 4 x 400m relay team. Second place finishers were Debra
Russo (high jump), Lauren Andriolo (triple jump, 55m HH and long jump), the 4 x 200m
relay team, Nila Boudreau (600m), Renee McKenzie (1000m), Sullivan (200m) and the 4
x 800m relay team.
The men's indoor track and field team competed at the Alden Invitational at Brown
University in Providence, R.I. on Sunday, February 4th. Liam Govostes finished third in
the 55m HH with a time of 7.87 seconds. The men's team next competes at Southern
