Subject: notes.... Date: Fri, 16 Jun 2000 17:44:10 -0700 (PDT) From: Shawna To: phoffman@cs.uml.edu Missing Steve McChesney's 9:04.4 towards the bottom of the list for 2-mile and possibly Seth Brown also from SEHS but I can't remember what his best time was? It was around 9:00 minutes and got a full ride to the University of Florida. Now just some random notes that may or may not be of interest: Nelson did have grade trouble at Oregon but a lot of that was the result of missing his girlfriend and being homesick. Rudy Chapa was the only HS distance runner to qualify for the 1976 Olympic Trials (10,000). Bill McChesney was always hailed as the "next" Pre and coincidentally died in a car wreck in Oregon several years ago. McChesney made the 1980 Olympic team (5000) that boycotted the games and held the American record at 10,000 for a brief time. I believe SEHS still holds both the Four-mile relay national record (S,McChesney, B. McChesney, John Gustafson & Chris Nielson 1976) and the Disatance Medley relay national record (A. Brown, B. McChesney, B. Penny and D. Lakeman 1977). In the 1978 Mt Sac x-country meet Nelson won in the most impressive x-country run I have ever seen (I swear he ran on his toes nearly the entire race!)and he still holds the course record. And SEHS set the team record that still stands in that same race led by Jeff Hess in third (behind Nelson and Paul Medvin and just in front of one of the Assuma brothers) and three in the top fifteen if my memory serves me right.?.
