Subject: all-time high school lists Date: Sat, 15 Aug 1998 18:25:01 -0700 From: "Brian McGuire" To: Phil, I commend you on the great list you've put together. A couple of additions and ammendments. Two high school teammates of mine have both been overlooked in the mile. Mike O' Reilly of San Rafael High ('78) ran a 4:10.2 mile at the CIF state meet that year, later ran four years of track at UC-Berkeley. Ray Green, also of San Rafael ('75) ran a 4:11.2 mile at CIF in '75. Hal Schulz of Redwood High, Larkspur, CA ran a 9:00.1 two-mile at the '76 CIF state meet. Frank Shorter most definitely did not run a 8-something two-mile in high school. I was just reading an interview with him about his early years of runnig when he mentioned that as a sophomore at Yale his prs were still only 9:38 and 4:30! Finally Matt? McCullum of Palo Alto is actually Mike McCullum. He, too, ran at UC-Berkeley, where he was talked into investing an initial sum of $5,000 by his former coach Brian Maxwell into Powerbars. McCullum cashed out a few years ago with something like 5 mil, and spends his days deep sea fishing! all the best, Brian McGuire
