Charles Marsala was only a minor god , since his 4:11.7 was #15 on the
high school list in 1983,  His best mile time was 3:58.73 in Boston 91

Patrick:

Charles was from Staten Island, New York.  He ran at Indiana where he was
an 8:38 steepler, 1500 and mile all-american, and US national team member.
He ran 2:25.15 for the 1000, 3:37.63 for the 1500, and 8:38.07 for the SC.
He was 2 X NCAA runner-up.  He graduated from IU in 87, so if he
red-shirted (I can't remember) he would have graduated in 82.  he later
coached at Columbia and was head coach at Wgner.  He has now taken over his
father's pizza shop in NY.
