I will be glad to host it for >you and update it.. i'm just specifically looking for one person, whether one mike hoover, california, late '50's early '60's, ever ran low 1:50's or faster. by the way, dale fleet's 8:53 would have been '70 i think, claremont san diego, great team, harper 4:12 same year. jose amaya, you have him 5th yr sr in the mile, i think his two mile (8:54.4) was same year. brent steiner (8:46) is a rep for cannondale bicycle company after a distinguished pro career in duathlon (running/cycling), he lives in phoenix. alan scharsu 8:44, and a pretty fast mile, lives and races often in san diego, thom hunt still lives there as well, but never races, terry cotton tried a comeback several years ago, i believe he's still in SD. many of your top listed guys from the early '70's went to ucla and were on the same team, gordon innes, curtis beck, gary nitti, alvin gilmore (cal state meet mile champ, '73, black, by the way), and others. bush was a crappy distance coach, none of them ever amounted to anything. your article reference on hulst was great. len miller, the coach quoted, moved from laguna beach hs to uc irvine with hulst. hulst & serna were teammates at uci, as you know, and the team also included, in those years, as i recall, dan aldridge, john koenig, brian hunsaker, quite a few others, and a fairly good miler, oh, yes, steve scott. turn 'em & burn 'em miller produced only one success out of the bunch. btw, asst. coach under miller both at laguna beach hs & uci was jim toomey, bill's brother. that uci team, along with john walker, was basically the genesis of the very fine Sub 4 Track Club in the late '70's. nice article on schilling. with him at san jose st was marc genet (8:53). go back and look at all your lompoc 1 & 2 milers from '73. you won't find jim warrick, he only ran 9:20. he was the 5th man on the XC team, behind alvin gilmore, terry williams, jim schankel (8:57), etc. maybe the greatest hs xc team ever fielded. your ramona hs (calif) link is sort of broken, well, the link is okay, but their link is broken past their entry page. the coach is dave wilson, father of dennis wilson, teammate of colin mcconnell @ edison hs (huntington beach, ca), 8:55. dennis was an original jamul toad, the club's original members were kirk pfeiffer (8:59.6), fleet, harper, ed mendoza, i believe, marc malec, etc. this was the basis of the grossmont jc team, probably the greatest jc xc team ever. your schilling article mentions barrie williams (4:06.7). he came from wales, england, raced at north torrance, and he ran that time quite early on, i believe that time broke an age group record (16yrs?) that was up to that point held by ryun. ah, the memories... dan
