I'd like to call your attention to Mark Ottesen's 2-semester
genjava  project which generates a java API similar to gencpp's
from the same input schema.sch  and metaschema format.

Mark and Kathy Miu previously worked together on gencpp.

This genjava was started in another earlier project 
and completed by Mark.

One unfortunate dichotomy: We have a partly working bde2jhava2
program, but it does NOT use genjava. Therefore it is impossible 
to upgrade the bde schema in a way that c++ and java versions
of the code generators can track (more double maintenance).
