MetaCase Newsletter: Making Code Generation Complete

Developers usually agree that it does not make sense to write all code character-by-character. After coding some features, they usually start to find similarities in the code, patterns that seem to be repeatable. Because nobody wants to write routine code, the idea of code automation—generating the repeatable portions automatically—arises both naturally and repeatedly. The obvious benefits of generators, such as productivity, quality, complexity hiding, and having more time to solve real domain problems, further boost the desire to seek automation. Domain-specific modeling is most successful when the models let you generate complete working code, without the need for post-generation code modifications or additions.

DevX: Domain-Specific Modeling: Making Code Generation Complete

Not having to give up control of the code generation process - from design to output format - to a faceless tool vendor makes a big difference in the acceptance of generated code. This is exactly the promise of Domain-Specific Modeling. In his third of a series of articles on DevX.com, DSM expert Juha-Pekka Tolvanen provides a number of best practices on defining code generators. Access the article here

Scott Ambler: DSM and MetaEdit+ Wake Up Call to OMG

In the March issue of the “Agile Modeling Newsletter”, titled "Unified or Domain-Specific Modeling languages?", agile modeling guru, Scott Ambler explains the need for both DSMs and UML. While naming MetaEdit+ as the most sophisticated DSM tool, he also claims both approaches can learn from each other and do not or should not strike each other out. Read the newsletter here

ARCast 7: Model-Driven Development Reality Check

MetaCase CTO Steven Kelly, Martin Danner form ArrowRock and Jack Greenfield from Microsoft continue the debate on Model-Driven Development in the ARCast #7 podcast. Will Model-Driven Development gain widespread adoption? Will it make building software faster, better and cheaper? Access it here.

MetaCase and ICT NoviQ work toward Collaboration

Being one of the largest Dutch software development companies and market leader in the field of embedded software, its new consulting and training division ICT NoviQ has chosen to focus on Domain-Specific Modeling for productivity improvement through model-driven development. MetaCase and ICT NoviQ have decided to work toward closer co-operation in providing a total package of MetaEdit+ and consulting services to customers and prospects in the Benelux and Germany. Learn more about ICT NoviQ and its services here.

MetaCase to sponsor the SPLC 2006 conference (Baltimore)

MetaCase is proud to sponsor the Software Product Line Conference (SPLC) 2006. Software product lines represent an important and growing software development paradigm, and SPLC is the leading forum for researchers and practitioners working in the field. SPLC 2006 will provide a venue for practitioners, researchers, and educators to reflect on the achievements made during the past decade, assess the current state of the field, and identify key challenges still facing researchers and practitioners. Access the conference website here for more information.

MetaCase CEO speaks at Software im Automobil 2006 conference

Software is becoming more important in defining a car than the mechanical parts. In order to manage the pressure of ever increasing complexity, quality and costs the industry is rapidly moving toward platform-based approaches and standards like AUTOSAR. MetaCase CEO and DSM expert Juha-Peka Tolvanen has been invited to speak at the Software im Automobil conference in Stuttgart on taking these efforts a step further with DSM. Access the conference website here for more information.

Chat with an Expert: Online DSM demo sessions

By offering online DSM demo sessions, MetaCase has added a new service to its customers and prospects. The web meetings are designed to provide technical information and educational value for software architects, managers and developers interested in learning more about domain-specific modeling and building DSM support with MetaEdit+.

Unlike typical online seminars, which often deliver marketing-oriented content, our online web meetings address the everyday challenges the experienced developers face in automating software development with model-based code generators. In the meeting, we provide practical insight based on real world examples of domain-specific modeling with full code generation. Accessible through your web browser and telephone or Skype, the seminar features a live presentation, demo and interactive discussion.

We can provide a dedicated online meeting for you or your development team. Just notify us at info@metacase.com regarding your preferred date and time (including your time zone). Feel free to include any additional information regarding your specific modeling and code generation requirements.
