Kung Fu

All of us had things we enjoyed doing as a kid. For some of us we continue to enjoy those things well into adulthood.  For me I disliked almost everything I tried as a kid.  I didn't like ballet, tap dancing, soccer, softball, voice lessons, or acting classes.  I enjoyed swimming during High School and was even captain of team senior year but I didn't enjoy it so much that I continued it into my college career.  Then out of the blue when I was walking around the gym I stumbled into a Shotokan Karate class.  Hmmm  I liked it but it was a little abrasive.  I stayed for about two years.

Then I started Wah Lum Kung Fu and Tai Chi with my brothers and I fell in love instantly.  Since then I have tested a passed my first level and in the summer I will test for my next.  I have participated in Kung Fu demonstrations and  Lion danced for Chinese New Years celebrations and a parade.  Yep, that's me in the Black Lion with my Older Kung Fu sister Katie.

Pictures

One of my many hobbies is photography.  Here are a few sample pictures that I've taken durng the years.  I've always been mildly drawn to taking closeup pictures.  I think I've seen it as a way to remind myself that the details matter.  Even the smallest portion of an object is beautiful in its own right.  Or perhaps its just the fact that everything in life is massively huge and complicated.  There is no simplcity.  Everything is interconnected.  When I think about it I feel so very small in comparison.  Whatever the case, I find these pictures peaceful to look at.  Maybe you will too.

Animals

Introducing my animal friends: Milkweed the orange terror, Charcoal the assasinator of fish, and Jolly Rodger the king of the tank!  They keep me company and drive me mildly insane, especially when Jolly Rodger escapes, but I love them with all my heart.
