[10%] User Interaction Analysis: at the end of every other week, on odd weeks (1, 3, ...) you will have to provide a
brief (no more than one page / 500 words, extra screenshots allowed)
analysis / critique of one user interface. You can love it, hate it, or
anything between the two, but you have to justify whatever you claim.
The meaning of "User Interaction" here is taken very broadly, with a view
towards the emphasis of Human-Information Interaction over Human-Computer
Interaction: a program interface, a Web site,
a device's interface, something in your house, in your car, a form, a sign. You pick.
Just keep your eyes and ears open.
Reviews will be done on the course's Wiki (to be set up).
Papers, review and write:
[10%] on even weeks (when you do not have a User Interaction Analysis critique
assignment), you will have to submit a short bibliographic summary of at
least two relevant publications (a bib summary includes all the
bibliographic reference information plus a short abstract). Please provide a BibTeX reference (easily available on line for almost any publication).
[15%] a midterm paper (paper title + abstact due Sep. 29, 2009; full paper due Oct. 27, 2009).
[15%] a final paper (paper title + abstact due Nov. 17, 2009; full paper due Dec. 8, 2009 -- the last class).
[20%] User Interaction design
+ mockup: at least one User Interaction design plus a full mockup. Ideally, it will have something to
do with your final project, and thus, would best be ready for the project proposal (below),
at least in some preliminary form. Other options can be discussed. One alternative could be a design and implementation of some (more regorous)
User Interaction study/evaluation.
[30%] A term project : substantial design and implementation
reqUser Interactionred, (project proposal due Oct. 13, 2009; complete project
due Dec. 1, 2009 -- one before last class). Examples include:
Design and implement a User Interaction for a process / an application, e.g.:
1. Health forms (@ Dr./Dentist)
2. School forms
3. Personal document management
4. General knowledge base
5. Medical records
6. Music/movies/pictures library
