Q: When is the application deadline?
A: June 1 for Fall admission and November 1 for Spring admission. International applicants should apply earlier to have enough time for visa processing.
Q: Are standard tests required?
A: GRE General exam is required for all applicants. TOEFL exam is required for international applicants.
Q: What is the cost of studying at UMass Lowell?
A: You can find the tuition and fee information at Student Financial Services and make payments following the guideline at Billing and Payments. Living cost in Lowell is about $1000 and up per month.
Q: Is financial assistance available?
A: In general, financial assistance is available for Ph.D. students. Please contact the Chair of Computer Science Department for further information.

Q: On my admission letter, some undergrad level courses are listed as conditions. Why?
A: Undergrad CS and Math core courses are the pre-requisites of many graduate level CS courses. If you have not taken those courses during your undergrad study or if the grade was below B, you are required to take those courses before you can take graduate level CS courses.
Q: What courses count towards MS/Ph.D. degree in Computer Science?
A: Only graduate level Computer Science courses (COMP.5***, COMP.6*** and COMP.7*** courses) count towards a student's MS or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science.
Q: Which courses shall I take?
A: If you have any courses listed as conditions, you must take those courses during your first semester at UMass Lowell with B or better grades. For graduate level Computer Science courses, please refer to Degree Requirements at for required courses.
Q: How to enroll in a course?
A: You should contact the instructor of the course you are planning to take for a permission number, then enroll through SiS.
