MaxMinAnalog

Your goal is to measure the maximum and minimum resistance or voltage values for your five analog sensors and to predict what the corresponding digital values will be returned by the Arduino.

You have five analog sensors in you robotics kit:

  • These three sensors are variable resistors...you will eventually put them into a simple voltage dividor circuit to convert the changing resistance into a variable voltage that you can feed into an analog pin on the Arduino:
    • Photoresistor
    • Theremistor
    • Flex Sensor
  • These two sensors already provide a output voltage on the signal wire that you can feed into an analog pin on the Arduino:
    • Sharp distance sensor
    • Cricket IR reflector sensor

1. For the first three variable resistance sensors, manipulate the environment in such a way that you can measure the maximum and minimum resistance values returned by the sensor. Make sure you make a note of the conditions you created to achieve the max/min value. Once you have recorded these values, use the voltage divider circuit provided in class to calculate the output voltage that will be sent to the Arduino. Then calculate the 10 bit A/D conversion that should be returned.

2. Repeat the process for the variable voltage sensors (you don't need to use a voltage dividor circuit for these!).

3. Summarize your results in a one page paper (tables, diagrams, 1-2 paragraph conclusions).
