MLTBackgroundBackround Information: So what is the importance of an aquatic plant being able to absorb phosphates? Phosphates can lead to algae blooms which destroy ecosystems. If a high percentage of the phosphates present in water can be removed than many algae blooms can be prevented. Knowing the effect of the amount of duckweed in an aquatic environment full of phasphate/phosphorous, you'd be able to control the phosphate levels which in turn affect the ability for algae to bloom and thus hinder the growth of aquatic lifeforms (such as fish). back to Duckweed Lab |
