Spring Loaded Door


This idea involves placeing springs near the door hinges. These springs will compress when Jojo tries to close her door,
increasing Fs. According to physics, Fs=-kx, thus we can calculate how much energy would theoretically be transfered to the
door. Knowing this, and the MOI (rotational inertia) about the pivot point we can calculate how far the door will open. The
door will swing open proportionally with the energy in the springs when the knob is turned. One possible idea is to remove
the knob mechanism, which would allow the door to always swing open if unlocked. At any rate, there would be a small switch
sensor in the spring, so that when it compressed far enough, an audio device would beep when the switch is on.
Once closed, the lock would be turned. The lock would be repainted to a sharp color so that Jojo can clearly see it. Then
as the lock is turned a second switch would turn on/off signalling a second beep. Thus by stimulating the senses by two
beeps and contrasting colors when the door locks Jojo will know her door is locked.
