We intend on asking around the school system and Mark has a neighbor with MD and an aunt who works in a rehab center

UPDATES:

Feb 13th, 2009:

I talked to a couple of Special Education Teachers, Mrs. Haywood and Mrs. Perrucio, at Chelmsford High. I explained the project to them and they seemed a little overwhelmed. Neither one was very sure on which student would fit to introduce me to. They wanted me to be able to find a peer that would actually have a mental/physical problem that I could help them with. I ended up giving each one my contact information and they promised to settle upon a student together and let me know within a few days. So, as soon as I hear back from them, I plan to schedule and interview with the individual towards the end of the week. In addition, I was referred to also contact

  • LifeLinks, Inc.--it is an advocate, service & support, provider for people with developmental disabilities and their families in Lowell, Massachusetts. (called and left a message)
  • Lighthouse School--located in Chelmsford, MA, the Lighthouse School services students ranging in age from 3 to 22 years of age with these children having any number of diagnoses, both medical and psychiatric. Lighthouse School one of the few private schools that accepts students exhibiting complex, severe and often unique combinations of special needs (certain disabilities include: Cerebral Palsy, Seizure Disorders, Fragile X Syndrome, difficulty with cognition, perception, motor skills and overall developmental delay, even moderate to severe emotional, psychosocial/behavioral and learning difficulties). I am in the process of contacting them.

Feb 18th, 2009 I just got an e-mail from Mrs. Perrucio which states as follows:

Hi Jasmine, A mom who does day care and has children with autism, said she may be interested in having you look into developing something to help. Her name is Patti Moore. You can reach her by phone @ 978-251-9818 or by email aidanandliam@yahoo.com Good luck and thanks for thinking of us.

I plan on giving Ms. Moore a call tomorrow. -Jasmine

Feb. 22, 2009

I called Ms. Moore a couple times over the past few days and have left messgaes for her. The number provided to me above was her home number. Its possible that she is on vacation too. So, I guess I'll try again tomorrow. Or better yet, I forgot that there is also an e-mail address. I can do that now. I called LifeLinks, Inc. and was transferred to the Program Director. His name was Carl Hooday. He is out for the weekend, so I will be calling again tomorrow. The Lighthouse School doesn't have an answering machine. It just keeps ringing. They probably also had the week off and will be in tomorrow. So they need to be called again too. Finally, I remembered that it may be a good idea to contact the retirement home we have in Chelmsford called Summer Place. I talked to the receptionist there and she said that I should talk to Cindy, the Enrichment Coordinator. Cindy works from 9-3:30, Monday through Friday, and may be in tonight at 6pm. I'll try tonight and may be able to talk to her.

Mark and Andrew, I tried contacting you guys through e-mail, but I dont know if you got my messages. In case you check the wiki first, I just wanted to give you an update on what I have done and wanted to know if you have contacted anyone as well. Im posting the four numbers below...see if you can get in touch with any of them. We need to set up an interview ASAP.
