Statement of Need:

Our stop at the sensory trail, needs to use basketball hoops for color recognition

Background:

T.H.E. Tewksbury Hospital Equestrian Farm, has a great program that allows disabled clients, to take horse riding lessons. Clients have ranges of disabilities from mental disabilites as well as physical disabilities. T.H.E. farm has asked for three teams academy groups, to help them better their clients lessons, by creating a sensory trail.
Sensory Trail A sensory trail has different stops that allow the rider to exploit different senses. Since three groups are going to help, there will be three stops on the Teams Academy Sensory Trail.
We want to create three basketball hoops that will help recognize the colors green, red, and blue. When the instructor selects a colored hoop, using the three rotary switch, the client then must shoot the ball into the correct hoop. If the client get the ball in the wrong hoop, the hoop will say "Try Again" (through a waterproof speaker.) If they get it into the correct hoop, an LED chaser with corresponding color will go off and the hoop will say "Good Job." The ball will not only go through the net, but will land in a colored bucket with a switch at the bottom. This switch will acivate the LEDS and Message circuit. This bucket will also maintain the safety of our clients, so that the balls will not continuously roll along the ground scaring the horses.

Design Requirements/Constraints:

  1. Safety (Must be sturdy)
  2. Construction time (3 months)
  3. Battery that can be rechargeable
  4. Cost (only have $150)
  5. Working LED chaser for correct hoop
  6. Correct message display
  7. Weather resistant
  8. Durability
  9. Clean-looking and presentable
  10. Easy on/off and color choice
  11. Hoop Height Difference
