Scott and Tina's Egg Hunt Planning Page

  • We had put this page up at an earlier date, but must have named it wrong. Someone overwrote it and we lost what we had previously posted. Scott talked to Mr. Rhine and he advised him to post this note as a reminder.

Egg Hunt Final Wiki Writeup

Strategic Plan:

  • Detect, differentiate, and maximize versatility by using Create's buttons to determine either color to detect.
Example: By programming it to use stored values for colors (i.e. yellow and blue) in the play and advance buttons, respectively, the color of our team's eggs will be insignificant since the Create will be able to detect either. Create will search the playing field for all eggs, then after capturing, decide to keep or release (When play is pressed, yellow eggs, and if advance is pressed, search for blue eggs.)
  • Pick our eggs via arm/net.
  • Bring eggs into our goal.
  • Repeat until no eggs of our assigned color remain on the playing field.

Action Plan:

Task Description Who Estimated Completion Actual Completion ( early / late)
Build Robot Hardware Tina primarily built the pieces that attached to the Create, such as the servo motor/popsicle stick, orange board, photocell sensor, etc. Scott helped with some soldering. Tina Before coding completed
Search Pattern Use search pattern of driving at a radius, as well as random drive direct speeds/durations, to navigate the playing field; Incorporate pieces of wimp mode (reaction to bumps) Tina January 14 January 11
Find Eggs Use search pattern and distance sensor to effectively find egg Tina January 18 in process
Catch Egg Use servo motor and distance sensor to detect the egg, and then lower the arm/net to catch it Scott January 18 January 18
Differentiate Between Eggs Take value readings of both eggs and use Create's buttons to choose which egg to keep/release Scott January 18 January 21
Detect Light and Bring to Goal After picking up egg, search for the light source, home in on it, and drop the eggs into the goal; Turn around and repeat Scott January 18 January 21
Stop After 2 Minutes of Operation Use stopwatch function to stop operating after 2 minutes Both Whenever (extra feature that was not planned) in process

Weekly Progress Reports:

Tina Choi

Week ending January 4, 2008:

- Planning page completed
- Brainstorm with Scott

Week ending January 11, 2008:

- Wall Following code completed
- After demo-ing the lab 5, attached the orange platform to the Cr8
- Decided to use not-continuous servo motor for our egg hunt
- On top of the platform, Scott and I built the arm with legos and secure them to the platform with glue gun and other supplies

Week ending January 18, 2008:

- took off the back bumper of the cr8 in order to attach 2 light sensors and 1 distance sensor
- finalized making & securing the cr8’s arm to the platform
- attached the popsicle stick at the servo motor using glue gun and at the other end of the popsicle stick, attached a string by making a hole
- using legos as the securing tower, secured 2 light sensors and 1 distance sensor looking out from the back of the cr8
- At the end of the arm, I have attached two wheels in order to make it smoother drive when the arm is down

Week ending January 4, 2008:

- Planning page completed
- Wiki updated as progress was made
- Brainstorm with Tina (further explanation on planning page)

Week ending January 11, 2008:

- Light Following code completed
- Finalized plan for layout of the Create
- Worked with legos and servo motors over the weekend at UMass with Tina to determine what would best fit the needs of our egg hunt strategy
- Decided on a standard servo motor (not continuous) and legos and plastic fasteners to secure our pieces onto the robot
- Constructed holding container using cardboard and duct tape
- Constructed arm for catching eggs
- Behind schedule a little, but spent time (about 6 hours) after school working on Egg Hunt to compensate

Week ending January 18, 2008:

- Constructed/completed Create's egg catching device with Tina
- Nixed the holding container made last week
- Obtained light values for egg colors to put into code
- Worked on my part of code: to catch the egg, determine if the color is the desired egg, then if not, release or if yes, drive towards and put into goal
- Spent several days into the evening after school working on Egg Hunt/Practical (Total of almost 20 hours over a span of 3 days)
