TEAMS Academy Slated to Close for 2009 - 2010 School YearEmail sent to all TEAMS applicants on June 11, 2009:Dear 2009 - 2010 TEAMS Academy Applicants: I regret to inform you that the UMass Lowell TEAMS Academy will not operate a morning or afternoon program next year. As you all know, our state and our nation are weathering a financial crisis--our closure is a direct result of these troubles. On a positive note, UMass Lowell is offering some free dual-enrollment course opportunities this summer. If you are interested, you must act quickly! Your TEAMS application already provides most of the information needed by the UMass Lowell Admissions Office, but you will also need a letter from your guidance counselor stating that your school will provide dual enrollment high school credits that match the course credits you would earn at UMass Lowell. If you are interested in this summer college program, please visit the UMass Lowell Dual Enrollment web site to see which courses are offered and the other program details (http://www.uml.edu/OSP/DualEnrollment.html). There are only about 15 slots available, so you need to contact Mrs. Johnston at the UMass Lowell Admissions office if you are interested (I will forward your TEAMS Academy application files to Mrs. Johnston for you). Note that there is a mandatory meeting for all admitted students on June 17th, so you need to act quickly! As for the TEAMS Academy, I encourage you to look for other ways to explore your interests and develop your skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. There are many ways for you, both formal and informal, to continue your education. You should also encourage leaders in your school, town, city and state to invest in STEM education opportunities. If we have other opportunities in the future, we will keep you informed. Best wishes as you finish your high school career. Sincerely, Don Rhine Director, UMass Lowell TEAMS Academy Telephone: (978) 934-4613 |
