See if you can learn how to use the wiki before day one!

Take some time to explore the TEAMS Wiki and start creating your own personal page. A wiki is a user-editable website (think of Wikipedia). We use our wiki to communicate with you, to post course work, and for you to collaborate with other students. Our wiki changes every day, so be sure to check it regularly for updates.

During the first two days of class we will spend some time showing you some advanced features. You will need the password to edit the wiki...sen me an email if you need it: donald_rhine@uml.edu.

We set up a blank wiki page for each of you to start a personal page. When you click on the edit button and type in the password show below, you can make changes to your personal page. A couple of hints to get you started:

  • Cardinal Rule: when you create a new page, select a unique name or else the page you create will conflict with other’s trying to use the same common name. For example, rather than creating a generic page page name called “Hobbies” by typing Hobbies, I would use RhineHobbies. Or, for a nicer look, try typing My Hobbies->RhineHobbies.
  • When you are in the edit mode, you will see a list of basic formatting commands that you can use. You will also see three links (Basic Editing - Text Formatting Rules - Documentation Index ). These links will give you easy-to-follow examples that will get you up to speed in no time!
  • Look at other people’s wiki pages—if you see something that you like, you can click edit to see (and cut & paste) the commands into your own pages.
  • Try adding a picture of yourself to your personal page using the Attach command. The photo you choose (<1 MB) will be uploaded and stored on the wiki server when you use the Attach command. Use the following line of text as a starter:
    %rfloat height=150px% Attach:OrientationDay2007.jpg | Class of 2008 Orientation Day!
         | Class of 2008 Orientation Day!

  • Here is an alternative method to using a picture that is already on the internet...
    %center% %width=200px% http://boomtownbeijing.files.wordpress.com/2007/11/olympics-logo-bike.jpg
