If you don't want to edit the page, then just post you comments/questions about the test here.

Can you do this? A solution containing Nitric Acid is used in the neutralization titration of a sodium hydroxide solution (NaOH). If the pH of the nitric acid solution is 2.7, what is the normality of the acid? What is the molarity of the acid?

What are the components that make up acid rain? That is what are the types of acids that fall to the ground in the form of acid rain? What are the primary sources of these compounds? Why are they detrimental? Sulfur is not inherently bad? Nitrogen is found in fertilizers why doesn't it help the plants? If there is CO2 in the air, wouldn't this help with buffering?

These questions have to do with the lab report that we have to write for the alkalinity lab:
1. When is the lab due?
2. For the lab report format, do we use the tables that we filled in the lab packet for pages 2-4 of the report or do we have to make our own tables and hand those pages in separately?
3. When filling out the Titration of Sample C Summary Data Sheet, I found that my VP and V8.3 were different and my VMO and V4.3 were different. Is this because of error or can they really be different?
by Dr C on 06.10.2007 - 18:03
It is likely due to error, they should have been the same, you can try and figure out why they are now. THe lab report is due on Thursday for everyone!!! These questions are related to things you might see on your test on Wednesday. I would redo the table it might be easier to format as part of the document.

OK, thanks Dr.C!!

Strong acids and bases completely disassociate in water. What is the pH of a .007M H2SO4 solution? How much NaOH would you need to titrate 50 mLs of this solution to neutralization?
by Brittany Forkus on 08.10.2007 - 16:07
Dr. C I think your questions on this site are really helpful...could you leave some more?
by Dr C on 08.10.2007 - 17:01
OKay.....What is the pH of a solution if the NaOH concentration is 4 X 10-3M.
by Dr C on 08.10.2007 - 17:03
What is the primary alkalinity species in a water sample, if the Vp=15 mLs and the Vmo= 25 mLs? What is the concentration of each if the normality of the acid is .003N? Don't forget, I will not be providing the formulas, you just need to know the primary formula to solve these problems. Can you graph this experiment too?
by Dr C on 08.10.2007 - 17:04
HOw many moles of an acid are there if it takes 15 mLs of a .03N NaOH to neutralize 50 mLs of an unknown acid?
by Scott Yim on 08.10.2007 - 21:27
Haha, in Post 007, Dr. C left out the normality of the base...it is supposed to be .03 N
by Daniela Garcia on 08.10.2007 - 22:58
Also, in Post 007, the volume is 50ml
by Dr. C> on 09.10.2007 - 09:46
OKay...here is another one. WHat volume of 2M HCL must be diluted with distilled water to prepare 250 mLs of a .005 M HCl solution?
by Dr C on 09.10.2007 - 09:48
what is the molarity of a NaCl solution if you dissolve 15 gr of NaCL in 500 mLs of water?
by David Ouk on 09.10.2007 - 16:23
Are we allowed to copy formulas down and use it for the test? or we need to memorize all of them?
by Daniela Garcia on 15.10.2007 - 09:59
Do we have any homework today (oct. 15)?
