About the Handy Cricket
In this workshop, you will be using the Handy Cricket, shown below.
1. On/Off Switch is used to turn the Handy Cricket on and off. When the Cricket is turned on, it beeps and the green LED next to the switch lights up.
2. Run/Stop Button tells the Cricket to run a preloaded program, or causes a running program to stop. When a program is running, the red LED by the button lights up.
3. Motor Ports A and B allow bi-directional control of two DC motors, or on/off control of lamps. There are two jacks per port, letting you reverse the direction a motor is turning by plugging into the other jack. Indicator LEDs light red or green depending on which way a motor is running.
4. Sensor Ports A and B are used for connecting touch switches, light sensors, or other sensor devices.
5. Bus Ports let you connect special Cricket “Bus Devices” like an LED Number Display.
6. Beeper makes a beep when the Cricket turns on, and can be programmed to play tunes.
7. IR Transmitter/Receiver communicates other Crickets and with the desktop PC for program download. When the Cricket is transmitting, an indicator LED lights orange/yellow.
