Dohertyhomework7~Mr. Doherty I have a few questions on the problems you assigned. For the first problem does it matter where you are listening to the dogs barking from? Also in the formula for area, does this just mean how far away it is? This seems confusing because area implies a two dimensional measurement while in the problems it only says how far away it is. Also, for these problems do we convert the decibels using the log formula first? Using the log formula and the Io that you gave us, (1x10^(-12))W/m^2, I seem to be getting ridiculous values when I try to convert the decibels to Watts. Thanks ~Lisa Pinals I think I have already answered you, but just in case I haven't, the assumption is you & the distance to the dogs remains constant. The area is the surface area of the spherical wavefront radiating outward from the source & the radius is the distance from source to detector (ear). If by ridiculous you mean the Intensity of sound is a small amount (negative exponent), that is correct. Let me know if you have unanswered question. Mr Doherty Hi Mr. Doherty. I don't know if anyone else is having this problem, but i cannot access the website, it says that access is forbidden on this server. Any help would be greatly appreciated. - George Murphy |
