Write a Letter of Introduction for Your Team

Before you go out to visit potential clients, you need to have some credentials to present. Your task is to write a letter of introduction for your team, that will be signed by your ATDF advisor and printed on school letterhead.

Letter Content

Keep in mind that you are writing this letter "for your boss," so you should use professional language that he or she would typically use in a formal letter. In the business world, you will often need to prepare letters, presentations, etc. for your boss in his or her voice, not your own, so get used to it!!

Keep the letter simple and to the point (probably 3 paragraphs or less, < 300 words total). Before you write the letter, make sure you understand the purpose of the communication, analyze your audience, and make a quick bullet list of key points that should be made in the letter. Use appropriate language and stay away from the use of passive voice!

Read page 166 of the Air Force's Tounge & Quill to better understand how to write a letter that someone else will sign.

Letter Format

Format the letter as shown page 167 of the Air Force's Tounge & Quill. Page 168 of the Tongue and Quill provides additional technical details you must follow when formatting the letter.

A couple of Mr. Rhine's preferences:

  • Use block format (left justify every line)
  • Use Times New Roman 12 point font
  • The TEAMS letterhead already has our return address and contact information, so no need to repeat
  • Attach your intro letter in Mircosoft Office 2003 format *.doc to your team's wiki page - link to a separate page intro letter page please (use proper naming convention for your page!!)
