Team VOLTA's Snoezelen Light Column

Our Snoezelen Light Column is a device that provides sensory (more specifically, visual) stimulus for people with Alzheimer's Disease and Autism. People with these disabilities often find difficulty in concentrating, focusing, or just relaxing in general in the cacophony of the everyday world. Snoezelen devices provide sensory stimulus to help these people focus and relax. This Snoezelen Light Column has LEDs to provide stimulus on the device itself. It also has a disco lamp on top to project colored spots on the walls in order to provide sensory stimulus around the room. Also, the lights are activated for about 25 seconds at a time. This provides some tactile stimulus as well, getting the user to interact with the device.

Our Client: Life Links
Our Statement of Need: Life Links needs an interactive Snoezelen device that autistic people can enjoy.
Our Project: An interactive tower that provides various sensory stimuli for people with Autism and Alzheimer's Disease in the form of lights on the device that not only provide stimulus on the device itself, but also on the walls around the room via a projector.
