What is deep tissue massage? It may be useful to begin by dispelling some of the myths associated with deep tissue massage. Deep tissue massage is not simply a “hard” massage that is given by exerting more effort. Deep tissue massage also does not require superhero like size or muscles.

Deep tissue massage comes about from understanding the layers of the body and having the knowledge to effectively work the various layers by lengthening and releasing the muscles in an effective manner. Deep tissue massage is typically used only as needed and entire session should not consist of deep tissues work. If a session consisted of only deep tissue work then this would be exhausting for both the client and therapist!

Unlike a typical Swedish relaxation massage session, deep tissue massage is typically not designed for pampering. Instead the purpose of the massage is to alter structure and muscle restrictions. In other words the purpose of the massage leans more towards therapeutic work.

Alleviating pain, improving posture, and increasing mobility are all goals of a deep tissue session. For additional information about massage in general feel free to review http://www.fantasticmassage.com/Massage-Therapy.html
