LetItRideSimulator

John Duarte
December 10, 2009

Overview

I have created a game of Let it Ride. My goal was to not only familiarize people with the game, but provide suggestions based on basic strategy. There are two options -- Let it Ride or Take it back, each of which will trigger a button event and a new suggestion up until the game is finished. Then you may shuffle up and play again.

Concepts Demonstrated

  • Higher order procedures are used throughout the project to call several procedures
  • List manipulation is used to obtain values from the list of cards
  • Accessor functions are used throughout

External Technology

Scheme's Cards library was essential for this game. This library allowed the use of a deck of cards(list) with preset graphics. It also allowed for a table to be created for which to play the game and functions to manipulate the list of cards and move them around the table. The GUI was also used to create a user-friendly window with which to play the game. The buttons made with the GUI are used to drive the game around.

Innovation

My project is innovative because Let it Ride is a very unknown game in the casino, yet the odds of beating the house are one of the highest of any game -- if played with correct strategy.I have yet to encounter a good training simulator for this game and my simple, easy to use trainer should arm people with the knowledge to hopefully one day beat the house at this game.

Additional Remarks

Brief Summary of game play if you were in a real casino: 1. You place three equal bets in three circles. 2. You are given three face-up cards. The Dealer is given two face-down cards. 3. Based on how you good of a poker hand you think you have you are allowed to leave your bet on the table (Let it Ride) or take your bet back. 4. The dealer then flips one of his/her cards. You are then allowed to use his card to better your hand...repeat step 3 for your second circle bet. 5. The dealer flips his final card. You must leave your final bet on the table. You win the game if you have a pair of tens or better.
