NEWS: Politics behind GPL and BeUAE

It has come to my attention (in the form of finger-pointing accusations
and essentially bullying) that I haven't been adhering properly to the GPL by
Alan Braggins who has blatantly accused me of committing an illegal activity
by not including the GPL in my release of the beta executables of BeUAE.

If you feel I have not committed criminal activities by not yet releasing
the source code to the beta version of BeUAE
(instead of withholding it and impeding its development),
If this is a concern for you, feel free to send an email to Alan Braggins
at the bottom of this article.

I'm trying to look out for the BeOS userbase, and not be forced to drop the
port if threatened by legal action. If however he does pursue legal
action I will drop the port, and destroy all modifications I have
made, and let some other poor fellow spend a large amount of time
trying to redo the work I have done. (Over a year and half now)

My motivation for *not* releasing the source into the main distribution
tree of UAE is that it would essentially break the rest of the build
in 3 major places. I feel (and have agreed) with the primary UAE authors
to attempt merge the source into the main source tree when it is stable,
and hopefully create work arounds for the breaking of the whole distribution.

I have the permission by Berndt Schmidt and Brian King (the primary
UAE maintainers) to distribute the beta binary without the source code
and will be merging the source as soon as the code is stable, and it
will be intact, GPL and all. Unfortunately Alan Braggins never asked
me to do it, nor did he ask for the source code, he just sent me
accusations. This is neither productive for him nor for the
proliferation of high quality free software.

If you have the immediate need of the source code for any reason whatsoever
without harassing me about GPL, I will gladly send you the unstable
source tree (via the web), or via snail-mail at the cost of the
media and shipping costs [$15US].
Send me an email if you need the source

in 0.7.6 (albeit sluggish), Sound code Thanks to Ralph Moll!
GUI overhaul and optimizations in the next few weeks.
NEW: I'm going to try to keep the front end for both 0.8.8 and 0.7.6

Users: Keep in mind, if I'm responding to emails, its taking away from debugging time (a significant amount). I've also got schoolwork to contend with. :) STATUS: I've taken the reins of the Unix Amiga emulator and updated the UAE 0.7.6 source to support BeOS R4 x86,and I am debugging the sound code presently, and adding to GUI preferences. News and information regarding this port will be available here, on www.be.com and www.benews.com.
